Do you need Google geolocation in your WordPress forms? We'll show you how to integrate a Google Map into your web forms to autofill addresses.
Looking for a way to increase user engagement, fill out forms faster, and get more accurate addresses? Fortunately, you can add geolocation to autofill addresses in a form using the Formidable Geolocation plugin.
In this post, we’ll discuss what a Google map integration is. Then, we’ll show you how to use Formidable's Geolocation plugin to add a Google geolocation map in a form.
Let’s get started!
What is a Google map integration?
A Google map integration is when websites, mobile apps, or Android apps display the location of an address using Google Maps within the platform, page, or form they are using. This API also adds fast address autocomplete as visitors type an address in a form.
What's more, integrating an interactive map into WordPress forms can be engaging and helpful for your users.
Is Google mapping free?
Yes. For basic uses, using a Google Maps layout on your website doesn't cost a thing. While address autocomplete starts at $2.83 per 1000 requests, the API comes with $200 pre credits per month.
How do I create a map in Google forms?
Formidable's Geolocation maps plugin automatically generates a Google Map in WordPress on designated forms. Just install the Geolocation add-on and Formidable Forms does the rest for you.
It uses the Google address autocomplete feature to help fill in locations in text fields and address fields. This form building plugin also works well on both web and mobile sites.
Fortunately, the Formidable Google maps add-on only requires a few small configurations to enable the map settings in a WordPress form. Let's learn more about it.
How to use the Formidable Geolocation plugin
Step 1: Install the Formidable Geolocation add-on
Formidable Geolocation enables you to use the Google Maps API to get accurate addresses from your online forms. To access these helpful features, you'll need to go to the Formidable → Add-ons page and click the Install button for Geolocation.
Step 2: Enter your Google Maps API key
To start using Formidable Geolocation, you'll need a Google Maps API key. For Google Maps APIs, free use is limited to 28,000 map views and up to $200 worth of geolocation requests per day. Using an API key and setting up billing is required by Google for this service, even if you never need to pay.
You can access your Google Maps API key by signing in to the Google Developers Console. There, create a new project. At the top of the page, select Enable APIs and Services:
After your API key is created, you'll have to add your billing information. To avoid any problems with geolocation limits, we recommend setting up automated billing. Please take a look at the more detailed instructions in the docs for more information.
Lastly, go back to your WordPress dashboard. Navigate to Formidable → Global Settings and find the Geolocation tab:
In the text box, enter your Google Maps API key. You can now move on to the final step.
Step 3: Add geolocation autocomplete to a form field
Now that you've covered the plugin settings, you can add geolocation to a form. First, go to Formidable → Forms and either add a new form or edit an existing one. This will open a form editing page.
To add geolocation to the form, you'll need to drag and drop either a text field or address field into the form. For either of these fields, open the Field Options and select both Add address autocomplete and Show map.
Adding address autocomplete will enable visitors to see a list of generated options as they type an address. By also including a map, viewers can see the location they searched for in real-time on a Google Map and move the pin to select a different location.
When you're done customizing the form, you can preview it to test that the geolocation feature is functioning properly. Then, you can use the Formidable WordPress block to easily add it to any widget, post, or page. You can also embed the form on any website.
With Formidable Geolocation, you can easily add geolocation autocomplete to any form without another tool.
Using one plugin for everything also means less hassle, less chance for error, and better customer service. Formidable creates an easy, seamless experience.
