MailChimp tags from WordPress forms is a new feature that will help you automate MailChimp and revolutionize the way you manage subscribers through your WordPress site.
We'll be discussing how the feature will benefit you, but first, here's a little background about tags and how they work.
What are tags in MailChimp?
Tags in MailChimp are labels you can create to help organize and categorize your contacts. MailChimp used to have static segments to organize email lists. This has been replaced with their tags feature.
Using tags allows you to bring your own contact structure into MailChimp. You can assign subscribers to different tags to help segment your MailChimp list.
Tags are highly customizable so you have a lot of flexibility over how they’re used. You can create tags based on data unique to your business, using whichever language you prefer.
Why use tags in MailChimp?
MailChimp tags enable you to closely target your email campaigns. Naturally, if you’ve got a lot of varied customers, you might not need to send the same email out to everyone.
For example, you could have users who are signed up to a free version of your service, and those who have a pro version. Any emails promoting free upgrades won’t be relevant to those who have already upgraded. In this case, tagging each group of users separately is a neat solution. It ensures that only relevant emails are sent to subscribers.
A key benefit of this is that it reduces people unsubscribing from your email list due to receiving lots of irrelevant emails.
How do you add tags to MailChimp subscribers?
Want to start using tags? Your next question may be, how does it all work?
Typically, the way to use tags in MailChimp is to tag a few people through a contact table in your profile.
When you need to tag a large number of contacts, you can do this through the Tags page to do it in bulk.
However, there’s an even easier way to do this and the solution is tied to your Formidable Forms plugin.
Set MailChimp tags from WordPress forms
Formidable Forms' brand new, neat solution to tags simplifies the process even further.
We already have a MailChimp add-on, which makes it way easier to transfer data from signup forms to MailChimp. This means you can automatically take form submissions from site visitors to create new contacts with their details in MailChimp.
This is a great help and time saver, but what about when you need to segment and organize your contact list?
With our new release, we've added in a way to use tags - directly through your Formidable Forms.
That means no more having to login to MailChimp to mess around with different tags and segments. You can assign new subscribers to specific tags so their contact details appear in the right place, ready for you to send emails to.
To access our new tags feature, you will need to go into the Formidable Form you use to collect MailChimp subscribers. Open up Form Actions, click on MailChimp and you should now be able to find a new field for Tags.
The tags option in form actions is a text field. That means that either a static tag, a value from a form field, or both can be used for your MailChimp tag.
Want to use multiple tags?
The tags field is comma-separated. This works in the same way as adding tags to a WordPress post. You can type in a string of tags, with each comma-separated value as a different tag in MailChimp.
It's a simple solution to set up and can further streamline the process of getting subscriber details to the right place. This frees your time up to concentrate on the emails themselves.
